The first and second floors of the palace have been carefully restored and are open to the public for guided tours.

The first floor has public reception areas – the grand hall, the state dining room, the blue room, and the throne room. The second floor contains a private suite – the King and Queen’s suite, the music room, and the prison room, where Queen Liliukalani was kept under house arrest for eight months following the rise of her government.

Things to know before your trip to Iolani Palace

The Palace welcomes visitors to photograph the grounds for interior, exterior, and personal use. The following are not allowed: flash photography; videotaping; Audio recording; About Tripod/monopods; Enhanced lenses.

To protect our visitors and collections, Iolani Palace prohibits the use of tripods or selfie sticks. It is a preventive measure to protect visitors and objects, especially in crowded situations. We encourage museum visitors to take selfies and share their experiences. Since the Iolani Palace is a sacred place, we ask guests to wear clothing that respects cultural and historical significance.

Need shirts and footwear; You will also be asked to wear shoe covers provided by the palace.
Bathing suits and beachwear (including beach coverups) are improper clothing and are not allowed.

Pornography is not allowed to display.

Children under the age of 5 are free, for the first time in a child or baby carrier always worn by adults or securely stuck in a stroller provided by Iolani Palace. There is no charge for use of the palace stroller and private strollers are not allowed inside the palace. If the child is being interrupted, the Palace staff will ask the child to be taken out.

Not allowed: big bags, backpacks, luggage, snacks, and drinks.

Service Animals: Service animals are allowed on the quadruple. We urge you to inform the Reservation Office and/or the cashiers before entering the Iolani Palace.

Iolani Palace Location

The Palace is located in downtown Honolulu on the corner of King Street and Richards Street. The car’s entrance to the Palace grounds is similar to the Like Mall on the left side of King Street between the Palace and the Hawaii State Library.

How long do you intend to spend in Iolani Palace?

It is recommended that you allow 60-90 minutes for either excursion. The tour selections change depending on the day of the week and the season of year. Parking lots and garages

There is limited meter parking at Palace grounds and adjacent streets. We suggest that you add at least 2 hours to your parking meter to make sure you have enough time to get out of your car and on your travels. Fees will vary by place.

Be aware that street parking may be limited to certain hours and may be restricted during morning and afternoon rush hours. Read the post signs carefully and take note of the two-way information.

As an alternative, Ali Place has a private parking garage (1099 Alicia Street). The entrance to the Ali Place parking garage is to the right of Alicia Street between King Street and Hotel Street. Alicia is a one-way mound (mountain) road to Gondi.

Royal Hawaiian Band Iolani Palace

The Royal Hawaiian Band has a long history of introducing the globe to Hawaiian music. This troupe of musicians, formerly known as the “King’s Band,” was assembled by King Kamehameha III and performed for state events, funerals, and parades.

Two gift shops in Palace. The first is located in the Hal Koa Barracks Building, which is adjacent to the palace. This is where guests can buy admission tickets. The second is located inside the palace and is named after the gallery shop.

This huge, inviting shop regularly features a full selection of new merchandise from incoming products suppliers. The Palace Shop is conveniently located in the Iolani Barracks.

Iolani palace King Kamehameha statue

Ruler Kamehameha I, Hawaii’s first king, is commemorated today with four commissioned sculptures. The most famous Kamehameha statue is located in front of Aliiolani Hale (the Hawaii State Supreme Court), across from Iolani Palace and a short distance from historic Kawaiahao Church and the State Capitol.
